NDS Construction of San Antonio, Texas, announces its alliance as an authorized dealer with two innovative construction component companies; Hi-Tech Tilt and Rigid Building Systems.
NDS has recently completed their first job using Hi-Tech Tilt, a 13,760 square foot expansion of Five Star Mini Storage at 8762 Huebner Rd. in San Antonio. “This newest generation of tilt wall product is more cost effective, lighter weight, more efficiently produced and reduces construction time,” states Victor Lopez, president of NDS. “Using 2 inches of concrete, as opposed to 6 inches used in traditional tilt wall, the walls are poured on site with embedded metal studs, then lifted and set in place using a crane. Exterior facade effects are unlimited and adding insulation between the metal studs yield a much more energy efficient wall than either traditional tilt wall or CMU block walls.”
“Other unique considerations made Hi-Tech the obvious choice for the expansion,” explains Jeff Koebke, the NDS Project Manager overseeing the Huebner Rd work. “Being an addition to an existing self storage business, construction had to proceed while assuring safety, the facility security and customer and tradesman access. The project was built to the property line on 3 sides, and a carwash facility is within 3 feet of the property.” The challenges were addressed using a crane placed on the property driveway to stretch 65 feet to lift the wall panels. “The storage and car wash operations were never interrupted,” Koebke adds.
Hi-Tech Tilt uses patented composite building technology to produce lighter and more versatile concrete walls while saving time during construction. The Huebner Road addition is the first time Hi-Tech Tilt has been used for self storage. It has worked quite well and is generating a tremendous amount of excitement for continued applications in self storage construction.
In a recent strategic move, NDS has become an independent authorized builder for Rigid Building Systems. Rigid is based in Houston and was founded in 1990 by Fred Campana and Alex Ghodsi. These two determined structural engineers carved out a niche in the industry by taking on complicated buildings that no one else wanted. Rigid Building Systems has become the fastest growing pre-engineered metal building systems manufacturer in the U.S. Rigid has produced impressive structures that clearly represent the engineering and architectural achievements of creativity and innovation, while providing affordable per square foot building costs. “NDS still relies on Cross Metal Buildings for all of its self storage buildings, however this new Rigid buildership allows me to better supply my existing and new customers with other commercial buildings” adds Lopez.
